Dr. McCarthy is a Vancouver based ophthalmologist who specializes in corneal, cataract and refractive surgery. He completed medical school at the University of Calgary, ophthalmology training at the University of British Columbia and a corneal specialization at the University of California. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. In 20 years of practice, he has performed over fifteen thousand cataract and corneal surgeries. He is most respected by his patients for his professionalism, attention to detail, and kind bedside manner.
Dr. McCarthy is highly experienced in corneal transplants and anterior segment surgery, including DMEK, DSAEK, DALK, Penetrating Keratoplasty, Boston Kpro, Corneal Collagen Cross Linking, and Iris Reconstruction/Iris Prostheses. For cataract surgery, Dr. McCarthy offers both femtosecond laser-assisted and standard phacoemulsification.
Please note that in order to provide the best service to his patients, Dr. McCarthy limits his practice to cataract and corneal surgery, and to the treatment of diseases of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye.
Please allow up to 2 hours for your office visit. This will include an examination with a technician and your physician and may also include testing or treatment. Your pupils may be dilated to allow for a thorough examination. Please bring a driver and consider bringing sunglasses to your appointment to make the trip home more comfortable. Please bring your current glasses and prescription medications.
