Dr. McCarthy will be retiring as of August 31, 2021 and would like to thank his colleagues and patients for their trust over the years. Dr. Alfonso Iovieno will be taking over the practice and medical records and can be reached at 604-879-9311 for the month of September and at the existing number, 604-875-4407, from October onward. Patients may obtain a copy of their records by signed and dated written request, mailed or hand delivered to the office at Section G, 2550 Willow Street, Vancouver, BC, V5Z3N9.

Dr. McCarthy is a Vancouver based ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract surgery and DMEK for Fuchs’ Dystrophy. He completed medical school at the University of Calgary, ophthalmology training at the University of British Columbia and a corneal specialization at the University of California. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology. In 20 years of practice, he has performed over fifteen thousand cataract and corneal surgeries. He is most respected by his patients for his professionalism and kind bedside manner.

Dr. McCarthy is highly experienced in cataract and corneal surgery and in order to provide the best service to his patients limits his practice to cataract surgery and Descemet’s Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK). For cataract surgery, Dr. McCarthy offers both femtosecond laser-assisted and standard phacoemulsification.

In preparation for your visit you receive a request to complete an on line patient history. This will make your visit more efficient and provide us with your most accurate and up to date health information. Please allow up to 2 hours for your office visit. This will include an examination with a technician and your physician and may also include testing or treatment. Your pupils may be dilated to allow for a thorough examination. Please bring a driver and consider bringing sunglasses to your appointment to make the trip home more comfortable. Please bring your current glasses and prescription medications.
